Assignment 2: CleVR

This was another fun project that allowed me to use my camera yet again.  The Centennial Museum was not my first choice.  I tried to take a 360 of a swan in Kemper Park.  I am not ashamed to say it did not turn out as well. I'll share it with you in another post.

There were many failures on this project.  My first attempt was inside the Administration building at USM.  This seemed like a good idea at the time.  I could stand at the center of the building with a tripod and take the pictures.  Unfortunately, the pictures looked too much alike.  Everything was very monochromatic and there was not much difference in the photographs. This confused the program.  The end result looked like something that was pieced together with a  Cuisinart.

I am afraid the inside of Danforth Chapel would have the same results.  The stained glass is pretty, but CleVR would not know the difference between one window and another. Besides, I would need a high tripod and a step ladder to get the best photos.

Then I thought about going down to the Natural Science Museum in the basement of Mississippi Hall.  I had taken some pictures there during the first project.  This was a great idea.  It had all sorts of interesting things to look at from plants to lizards to skeletons.

But there was a problem with that plan. How was I supposed to know they actually teach classes down there?  Boy was I embarrassed when I found out they did.  So it was off to the library.  I thought about taking some pictures outside.  Then I noticed the Centennial Museum was empty.  Score!  It was an empty site.  No chance of ghosts because of moving people there.  There was diversity of images and lots of color.  CleVR had no problem telling what was what.  I simply set up the tripod and went to work.

CleVR was easy to use. Coincidentally I learned how to do panoramas in Photoshop in another class that same week.  I have to say for a basic panoramas CleVR is much more user friendly and I even got better results with the same pictures!

There was some ghosting.  I ended up doing this same pictures twice.  Then I had to accept the fact that I would not get rid of all of the ghosts and just turn it in as it was.

  1. Well, it looks like you had a much easier time with CleVR than I did, Kristie. Perhaps that is because you used the inside of a building with easily defined areas. My subject seemed to have more glitches than yours. Like you, i had to turn mine in 'as is' since I could not make it as perfect as I would have liked.

  2. I think we all had problems getting rid of ghost. Especially if you didn't have a tripod that made it easier to take all the photos on a even level. You ended up with way fewer ghosts than I did. So your assignment looks great.
